OAU Masters Degree Programme In Geology 2013/2014 Application begins

Application for Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Masters degree in Goeology for 2013/2014 session has commenced. APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION INTO FULL-TIME
PROFESSIONAL ONE-YEAR MASTERS
POSTGRADUATE COURSES IN PARTNERSHIP
WITH GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, NON-
GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND INDUSTRY FOR
2013/2014 ACADEMIC SESSION.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into Full-time Postgraduate Programmes available in the Department of Geology, Faculty of Science for 2013/2014 Academic Session. The Programmes are:
(i) Master in Petroleum Geosciences
(ii) Master in Petroleum Geophysics
(iii) Master in Petroleum Geochemistry
(iv) Master in Mineral Exploration
(v) Master in Groundwater and Environmental Geosciences
A. INTRODUCTION
The twelve (12) months Masters Programmes are purely professional programmes primarily
concerned with reshaping the future of
geosciences education in Nigeria. They are especially designed to provide skilled manpower for the oil and gas, solid minerals, water industries and the environment. Young graduates wishing to improve their chances of joining any of these industries will benefit from these programmes. In addition, the programmes will provide intensive hands-on-training for professionals already serving in these industries and the relevant government agencies.
The specific objectives of the programmes are to:
i. Produce well equipped graduates to pursue geoscience careers in industry and government and non-government agencies;
ii. Respond to the shortage of skilled geosciences personnel, within the oil, mining, groundwater and environment and service sectors;
iii. Attract graduates with a strong theoretical background in mathematics, the physical sciences and engineering to a career in the geosciences;
iv. Provide advanced training for graduates who already have some experience in practical application of geosciences principles, but seek to further their understanding and skills in a particular area of specialization;
v. Provide a solid grounding in the concept of geophysical, geological and production
geosciences required to understand and exploit these techniques in all stages, from exploration, through development to production and
resource management;
vi. Encourage and develop interdisciplinary skills across all aspects of the geosciences; and
vii. Provide the skills needed to undertake
independent research projects in the industry and within the university environment.
B. DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME
The courses are full time and will commence on 2nd Week of May, 2014. They are designed to run
for twelve (12) months comprising of Harmattan and Rain Semesters for course work and a Post- Rain Semester for the independent project.
C. ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS
Eligible applicants shall include graduates, and graduate professionals in industry, government and non-government organizations.
D. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1. A graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University or any other recognized university with a minimum of second class lower degree.
2. In addition to the admission requirements as published in Obafemi Awolowo University’s Regulations, governing postgraduate studies (2005), ALL candidates should please note that they must satisfy the O’ Level First Degree Matriculation requirements of the Obafemi
Awolowo University of Five Credit Passes at not more than two sittings including English Language and Mathematics.
E. CONDITIONS FOR CONFERMENT OF DEGREE Candidates shall fulfill the course work and examination requirements as stated in the Obafemi Awolowo University Regulations governing postgraduate studies for the award of the degree. A unique prerequisite for the conferment of Master degree in these programmes is the completion of a 3-month internship project within an industry, government or non-government agency.
F. TUITION FEES
The tuition fee for each of the programmes is N1,000,000.00 (one million naira) only per student.
The fee covers the cost of instruction, instructional materials, fieldwork for a minimum of 16 days and computer time, but do not include lodging, transportation, food, textbooks or any other cost associated with the personal upkeep. A few scholarships may be available for deserving students.
G. METHODS OF APPLICATION
Purchase of application form shall be through ONLINE only. Candidates can conveniently complete the application forms and pay online by following the steps enumerated below:
Step 1: Log on to our admission website, http:// apply.oaunetque.com
Step 2: Create an online account, email will be sent with additional details including system generated password.
Step 3: With the email and password combination, applicants should sign in and accurately fill the pages of the application form
Step 4: Application processing fee of N10,000.00 (Ten thousand naira) only can be paid using either ATM/Nigerian Debit cards or the Obafemi Awolowo University online postgraduate application scratch
cards (Details will be sent via email).
Step 5: Applicants should scan and submit relevant documents, WAEC and NYSC certificates online in support of their application (See notes on
admission)
H. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
i. ATM cards for all banks on the inter-switch network are supported
ii. The progress of completed application forms can be monitored online and notification will be sent to applicants once decisions are made on the application
iii. Applicants will be notified of the status of their application by email.
